From the time we met Matt Valyo at age group Nationals in Burlington, VT he nurtured my daughter’s budding talents. With his coaching and mentorship she achieved two top ten results in the elite draft legal National Championships. Matt not only provides expert coaching he genuinely cares about the well-being of the kids. I highly recommend Tri and Fit Junior Multisport Racing and Matt Valyo for anyone interested in youth triathlon.

Our son Tyler Smith was personally coached by Matthew Valyo for two years (May 2013 to May 2015). During this time, Tyler developed his skills, fitness and race strategy to become one of the top juniors (currently ranked 14th) in the CAMTRI Pan American region. Under Matt’s coaching, Tyler competed at the Youth Olympics Games, several ITU junior regional races, as

well as USAT races. Tyler was 14 when he first met Matt at a USAT Select camp in Boston. Being from Bermuda and

having a coach living in a different country at first sounded difficult, but with Matt’s flexibility and willingness to work to Tyler’s schedule, it quickly became an excellent coach-athlete relationship. The use of technology, including Skype and Training Peaks allowed Matt to see how Tyler was performing in his training and make adjustments if required. Matt was also able

to travel to Bermuda for training camps as well as onsite coaching at races which proved to be very beneficial.

Matt was an excellent coach for Tyler, providing him with the goals and motivation he needed to improve and race at a very high level. As parents, we found it very easy to communicate with Matt and any questions were always addressed immediately.

We highly recommend Matt as a junior coach

My daughter, Erica Hawley, attended 2 USAT Select camps run by Matt in 2013 and 2014. The first 2013 camp was a pivotal point in Erica's growth as a junior triathlete and this was due to Matt's coaching and running of the camp. Erica came back from the 2013 camp a different triathlete and this, in part, has helped Erica grow into the junior triathlete she is now who raced in the Junior World Championships in Chicago! Erica worked with Matt on a one on one basis and at a number of races she did in 2013 and 2014. Matt is a fantastic, enthusiastic coach and well qualified to help any aspiring junior triathlete grow and learn to be a better athlete.

Matt has been a tremendously positive influence on my daughter.  He coached her between ages 12 and 18 as an athlete.  Under his guidance she is now a Level 1 USAT coach and helped coach the team at last years Nationals.   Under Matt’s tutelage she

competed at multiple local events as well as 3 National Championships and 3 National Cups (achieving a national rank in the top 25 many of those years). Matt’s approach is ideal for the Youth and Junior athletes.  He is tough when he has to be

but tempers this with the right mix of understanding and nurturing. A great sense of humor also helps a lot!

I give Matt my highest recommendation as a Youth and Junior triathlon coach.

Our son started with Matt Valyo and TAF when he was about 14 years old…  and we saw him grow and take delight in being part of this fantastic  team.  Matt guided him, and set him continually on the path to new and challenging events.  Greg never needed reminding from us to practice - he knew what he had to do, EVERY DAY, whether that meant a run, a ride, a swim, or commonly, some combination - his motivation came from being part of such a great team, and from within.  It has been a joy to watch!  He has had many successes, but the fun and growth weren’t just from doing well in triathlons and duathlons - part of it was from traveling with the team, the sharing of meals, stories, laughter; making friends.  Even the disappointments were okay, with the encouragement of this team - it is really a community of like-minded kids and parents - all encouraging and supporting each other, all genuinely happy for each other when things go well.  We are so happy that Greg has been a part of TAF.  It has made him more confident, more willing to try new things, to take a risk, and meet new people.  We can say for sure that it wouldn’t have been nearly the same great experience it he had tried to do Triathlon and Duathlon on his own.
